As Darren does not actually know whom His Mother was, the last name of Magnus is completely made up on His part. His true last name is... Nexxus.
While His Father, Julian, maintained a loose connection with Him throughout His childhood, the Demon Lord was more than careful not to allow the young boy to learn of their blood ties.
Darren was actually taken from His Mother's people and haphazardly tossed into the World to fend for Himself. He grew up very poorly, only finding work at the Stables of what appeared to be a long demolished Castle when He reached 15 summers.
From this position, Darren worked hard to prove to those around Him that He was not just another 'slip of a child.' Though the road would be long and hard, considering He fit the description perfectly.
By the time Darren reached the age of 21 [Human years], He had managed to find a friend in one of the many Lords that served under the ruling King. However, unbeknownst to Him, said King was His own Father under the guise of another name and appearance.
Shortly after His 23rd Human year,
Darren was made the youngest Knight in His Father's Army.
While His was no more a comfortable tour than the next Male's, the next 6 years of the young Man's life were among His easiest yet.

Pertinent Details :: Sarah was one of the Realms most talented Healers, which explains how the Newly Knighted Darren met Her. It took no time at all for the pair to become completely enamored with each other. She attracted to His Loyalty and Bravery. He drawn in by Her Compassion.
Darren courted Sarah for 2 years before She finally accepted His hand in Marriage. Their Wedding was held on July 21st. The small Ceremony was held in an Orchard outside the Kingdom. However, the Happy Couple would only remain so for about 4 years when Tragedy struck.
Upon returning from the Battle Front late one evening, Darren had developed a taste for blood so strong that He hadn't been able to let it go when the fighting was over. Upon walking in the door of their small home, Darren had lost 'consciousness' [Blacked Out] and attacked Sarah when She had tried to take His weapons for Him. When He came to... it was apparent that He had killed His Wife with His bare hands...

Pertinent Details :: Celeste was, and is, the Younger Sister of the Dark One. Conceived of their Father, Julian Nexxus, and an Elven Mother, Arwyn, She was originally supposed to be a set of Twins. However, Moira had other ideas for Her.
Celeste would live to become a very talented Warrior under Her Mother's guidance, and with the Assistance of Several of the Demonic persuasion. She grew to be either Loved or Hated by all that Met Her... and Feared by Many. Cel eventually became a very Proud yet stoic Woman of great ability and power.
The Reluctant Queen, as She became known, ascended to Power because of their Father. Greedy for the Throne of 2 Countries, Julian made an attempt on Arwyn's life, succeeding in Murdering Her... right in front of Darren... and Celeste. The resulting fight between Father and Daughter was a bloody brawl, each vying for supremacy as the Fallen Prince, Darren, looked on with mild interest.
To this day, Celeste is still unaware that Darren stepped in and saved Her life when She was knocked unconscious by the Homicidal Julian. With the element of surprise on His side, Darren was able to subdue and capture their Father... Later witnessing Celeste's 'humane' decision to have Him Imprisoned... Eternally.
It is because of His Sister that Darren continually fights the Darkness that had become so much a part of Him. If not for Her unwavering Love, He would no longer exist.

It should be obvious who won that fight. Obtained shortly after Saving His Sister's Life, the Mortis became the Dark One's Home away from Home. A place to let the Wind take all His troubles away.
During His time as the Captain, the Umbram Mortis has made it through many life times worth of adventures. Most notably, its time as the Notorious Pirate Ship... and secondly, as the Fallen King's own Flagship.
